Birth Doula Services
What is a Birth Doula?
A Doula is a non-medical trained professional who provides evidence-based education, emotional, practical, and physical support, and guidance during pregnancy, labor/delivery, and postpartum period to birthing individuals and families. Doulas may provide services within the home, office, hospital, or freestanding birthing center settings. Doula services improve outcomes for birthing individuals and infants and promote health equity. (From the Nevada Board of Certifications Website)
Birth Doulas are certified by the Nevada State Board of Certifications, receive trauma-informed care training, are HIPAA compliant, and have a Certification in First Aid and CPR.
Doula services improve outcomes for birthing parents and infants.
Doulas offer support, guidance, evidence-based education, practical support during childbirth, and linkages to community-based resources. Doula services include personal, non-medical support to birthing families throughout an individual’s pregnancy, childbirth, and postpartum experience. Frequently asked questions
What is included in the birth doula services covered by Insurance?
Most insurance companies follow the Medicaid schedule or services to cover doula services. This often is a maximum of four (4) 60-minute visits plus the support during labor & birth. Two (2) additional visits can be covered if prescribed by your medical provider as a medical necessity and pre-approved by your health plan with a prior authorization document. For more information, talk to your Health Plan's member services representative.
If you have an employee benefits plan, you can access birth and postpartum doula services as well. Talk to your Employee Benefits representative to get more information.
How does this service work?
You join a required discovery call, in which we determine my availability and if we are a good match to work together. Then we verify your benefits, sign an agreement of rights and responsibilities, and collect any up-front fees that apply to you. Then you will receive access to a client portal from which you get to book all your visits.
How much does it cost to get birth doula services?
It depends on your specific insurance plan, co-pays, co-insurance, or employee benefits package. Out-of-pocket prices are available publicly on my pricing page. Your specific coverage can be estimated through a verification of benefits.
Are the 4 visits all prenatal visits?
No, the four visits can be either prenatal or postpartum. They can be scheduled at your convenience. At least one visit is required before the birth.
Can I get extra services from you?
Yes, you can. Please note that if these services are not covered by your plan or benefits package, you will be responsible for all charges at 100%.
Do you offer educational materials, phone and text support as part of these services?
I offer access to a hub of digital resources within your client portal. I can answer questions and point you towards resources via my secure client messenger widget inside your client portal. I also offer 24/7 availability over the phone during the on-call period, once you have reached your week 37 of gestation.
Which insurance companies do you accept?
I am certified as a doula provider with Medicaid, which means that I have all the required education, licenses, liability insurance, and business requirements to either bill directly, or to provide you with a superbill for reimbursement for any plan or employee benefits package that offers coverage for doula services, including, but not limited to, Aetna commercial plans, Maven & Carrot. I have also signed a participation agreement with TRICARE West.
