Birth Companion Experience

Having a birth companion can profoundly enhance your birthing journey...

The experience of having a birth companion can profoundly enhance your birthing journey by offering compassionate, family-centered guidance and hands-on support.

During labor, your birth companion offers natural holistic comfort techniques, such as herbal steaming, gentle movement, and soothing songs, to promote warmth and relaxation in you and those around you.

By having a dedicated companion by your side, you can feel contained and safe to surrender to your experience. Your partner, mother, and other relatives can feel reassured and focus entirely on you, while your companion manages essential needs like hydration and nourishment. After the birth, your companion continues to lend a helping hand by tidying your space and preparing a nourishing meal, allowing you the opportunity to rest and bond with your new baby.

This holistic approach not only enriches your birthing process but also creates a supportive environment for the entire family.

Birth Companion Experience

The Birth Companion experience provides 2 at-home visits and support during labor, birth, and early postpartum.

Labor & Birth

I provide continuous support from the beginning of your active labor until two hours after your birth. During this time I provide you with positioning guidance, guided relaxation techniques, and traditional tools for pain management, and emotional and physical openness.

Postpartum

You receive my support up to 2 hours after your birth. I can help you with initiating breastfeeding, with meal preparation, and tidying up your birth space. If at the hospital, I make sure you are fed and settled in your room before leaving. Also, I visit you a day after your birth (if at home) or after being discharged from the hospital, to provide you with meal preparation, or support you with newborn care.

Prenatal visit

This visit happens at least a few weeks before your estimated due date. This visit is to get familiar with your birth plan and to ask any questions in regards to your birth preferences you may have. At this time you introduce me to your home, your family, and your support system.

Additional Benefits

✅ Email, phone, or text support

✅ 24/7 On-call availability starting week 37 of gestation

Frequently asked questions

What is a birth companion service?

This could be classified as a Birth Doula Service. I bring my ancestral knowledge, wisdom, and skills to your experience to ensure you are supported and tended to during your labor & birth, while still tending a helpful hand during your golden hour and at another time during your early postpartum. My birth companion service is not a medical service or a replacement for the medical care a Midwife or any other medical professional could give you. It is more of a personal service that enhances your birth experience by providing holistic support to you and your family while at birth.

How does your birth companion service work?

I offer an open 40-minute video consultation called Your Dignified Birth, in which we determine if we can walk your birthing journey together. If so, I send you a booking form to collect your information, to sign an agreement of rights and responsibilities, and to determine the preferred compensation method. After this has been completed, you receive access to a client portal and my calendar availability to book your prenatal visit. My booking process is simple, clear, and convenient for you.

What is the value of your birth companion experience?

The value of my birth companion experience is $1800.

Do you offer payment plans?

I do. I often let families accommodate their payments according to the financial planning of their birthing vision. The full price of your companionship service must be paid in full by the estimated due date of your birth.

What are your inclusion criteria? Can just anybody work with you?

My birth companion service is for any person or family who seeks an empathetic, caring, calm, and well-resourced presence during their birth. I draw on Indigenous traditions from South America in my practice, but my focus is always on helping you connect with the tools and wisdom from your own ancestral traditions that are relevant to your unique birthing experience. Together, we can create a personalized approach that honors your story and supports your needs during labor.

This service is also ideal for individuals who already have strong support from other professionals—outside of their medical care—or who have had previous pregnancies. If you have a solid postpartum support system in place but are still looking for additional emotional and educational support during your birth, I can provide that extra layer of care. Whether you need reassurance, guidance, or someone to hold space for your emotions, my goal is to offer tailored support that complements and enhances the care you're already receiving, ensuring a holistic and empowering birth experience.

Do you have a refund policy?

Yes, services are not refundable or transferable. However, additions to your companion service can be made as we move forward in your birthing journey; you will be required to sign a separate agreement and will be invoiced accordingly. If by Force Majeure events I can't provide a service that cannot be rescheduled, such as the birth, you will be covered by a backup provider at no extra cost to you. I reserve the right to cease service and return your investment minus expenses incurred if our agreement is not respected at any point of the journey. How is your birth companion service different from your wholesome birthkeeping services?

The main difference between birth companion, and birth-keeping experiences is the amount of time I devote to your support. While in the birth companion services, I support your labor, birth, and early postpartum, in the wholesome birthkeeping services, I provide support during your pregnancy, labor, birth, and at least until day 40 postpartum.  In the wholesome birthkeeping experience, I also provide you with materials and organic homemade snacks for every visit and tend to your knowledge-sharing sessions in a more in-depth one-on-one capacity. Visit my Wholesome Birthkeeping page if this resonates more with your needs. Know that the birth companion services were created as an alternative for 1. Those who already have a strong support system yet would like to have an extra hand when it comes to labor and birth, and 2.  For those whose budgets cannot allow them to have the wholesome birthkeeping package, yet still want to have my company during labor and birth.

How is your birth companion service different from a birth doula service?

This birth companion experience differs from my own birth doula services (covered by insurance) in time and depth of involvement in your experience. In both services, I support your labor and birth, but as a birth companion I also support your early postpartum. As a birth companion, I can provide you with a nourishing broth and organic fruit for each visit. I provide you with reflection exercises and educational materials to spark creativity and bring resourcefulness to you and your family. In the birth companion experience, you get to determine the visit schedule, and can benefit from natural and holistic comfort techniques on every visit.

Your birth companion

Hi! I'm Iveth Balanta, your birth companion. I help families feel dignified in their birth experiences by providing care that is tailored to their unique stories and needs. Even though my story as a birth keeper started almost 19 years ago, I've been serving people as a Certified Full-Spectrum Doula in the Las Vegas Valley for over 3 years now.

I am from Abya Yala (Colombia, South America), my people are Inga, Quillacinga, Balanta, and settler Spaniards. I speak Spanish and English. I love to garden and spend time with nature and all her beings, I love music and dancing, and I love spending quality time with my daughter.

I believe in the land as Mother and source of our holistic well-being, and I do my best to foster resilience, empowerment, and sovereignty in the lives of those I cross paths with by birth keeping with presence, through the spirituality of nature, with the help of my plant companions and teachers, and with the blessing of my ancestors.
