Birth Doula Services covered by Medicaid
Nevada Medicaid Birth Doula Services
What is a Birth Doula?
A Doula is a non-medical trained professional who provides evidence-based education, emotional, practical, and physical support, and guidance during pregnancy, labor/delivery, and postpartum period to birthing individuals and families. Doulas may provide services within the home, office, hospital, or freestanding birthing center settings. Doula services improve outcomes for birthing individuals and infants and promote health equity. (From the Nevada Board of Certifications Website)
Medicaid Birth Doulas are certified by the Nevada State Board of Certifications, receive trauma-informed care training, are HIPAA compliant, and have a Certification in First Aid and CPR.
Doula services improve outcomes for birthing parents and infants.
Doulas offer support, guidance, evidence-based education, practical support during childbirth, and linkages to community-based resources. Frequently asked questions
What is included in the birth doula services covered by Medicaid?
Medicaid covers a maximum of four (4) 60-minute visits and the support during labor & birth. Two (2) additional visits can be covered if prescribed by your medical provider. For more information, talk to your Health Plan's member services representatives.
How does this service work?
You join a required discovery call, in which we determine my availability and if we are a good match to work together. Then we verify your benefits, sign an agreement of rights and responsibilities, and collect any ancillary fees applicable to you. You will receive access to a client portal from which you can book all your prenatal visits.
How much does it cost to get birth doula services?
Birth doula services are covered by Nevada Medicaid, meaning that they are paid with public funds at no extra cost to you. Ancillary fees such as transportation costs, materials, and supplies, as well as late cancellation fees and on-call/labor stand-by fees, will be your out-of-pocket responsibility when applicable.
For your reference, transportation fees are calculated based on commute time and mileage distance. There is a $30 flat rate per hour of commute within the limits of the City of Las Vegas per visit. For homes located outside of the City of Las Vegas, an additional fee per mile, according to the IRS standard mileage rate for the current year, applies.
Materials and supplies are optional and are available upon request.
Late cancellation fees for visits cancelled with less than 24 hours' notice are $50 each.
On-call/labor standby fees of 50% the value of the birth support, as determined by the Medicaid reimbursement fee of the current year of service, apply to those families who reserve the doula calendar availability but fail to notify the doula of the onset of labor, preventing the service from being provided & compensated.
Supposed Medicaid fails to issue payment for services rendered to you, you understand that you will be 100% responsible for all allowed amounts of such services as determined by the Medicaid reimbursement fee applicable to the year of service. Find more information on doula fees (Provider type 90-Doula) here.
Are the 4 visits all prenatal visits?
No, the four visits can be either prenatal or postpartum. They can be scheduled at your convenience.
Can I get extra services from you?
Absolutely! Know that Medicaid does not cover services outside the abovementioned visits. All of our services are available to you as an out-of-pocket expense under a separate agreement.
Do you offer educational materials, phone and text support as part of these services?
We offer access to a hub of resources within your client portal. Your doula can answer questions and point you towards resources via my secure client messenger widget inside your client portal. Your doula offers 24/7 availability over the phone during the on-call period, once you have reached week 37 of gestation.
Which insurance companies do you accept?
We accept Health Plan of Nevada & Silver Summit Health Plan.
